Solar Observations 15.08.2018

Image Left is of AIA 171 showing a new active region AR 2718 a relatively small region with 10% chance ( currently) of producing a C class flare.

with M/X @ 1%.

1 Sun spot currently on Disk. ( as above).

HSSW

Current solar wind speed is 469 km/s leveling off, however this will again increase over the next 24 hrs as HSSW reaches the magnetosphere.

Kp index is currently at 4 again geomagnetic activity is expected for the following 3 days.

A Coronal shockwave was observed on the disk some hours ago however this has no impact on any index.

A small A class flare was observed on the Western limb which is not expected to transpire as HSSW as observed, and not Earth facing.

Solar Synoptic

There are currently 2 CH (coronal holes) currently on the disk (16+17) numbered.

CH-16 equatorial region west. CH-17 south of equatorial region east, this is the current focus of my attention as it traverses westward, it will either decay or grow in stature in coming 48 hrs. all eyes on this region during this period.

The direction of IMF ( interplanetary magnetic field) is currently slight south at -6.05nt.

I am not expecting any major activity at this current time.

10.7cm Radio flux is currently @ 68 sfu (solar flux units). we;; within solar minimum range. of 68-72 SFU's.

STAY TUNED FOR FURTHER UPDATES.
